The National Weather Service Grand Rapids nearshore forecast issued October 12 calls for northwest gales up to 45 knots on Friday in the South Haven-to-Holland zone, with waves forecast to build to approximately 13 to 17 feet during the afternoon. The St. Joseph-to-South Haven zone is also forecast to experience northwest gales up to 45 knots.
The marine forecast does not mean every South Haven property will experience identical wind speeds. However, it highlights the strength of the approaching system and the type of fall weather exposure that makes roof condition especially important along the Lake Michigan lakeshore.
