The Center for Morton’s Neuroma is a specialized center dedicated to non-surgical procedures for the Morton’s Neuroma. It has been offering non-surgical Morton’s Neuroma treatments, including ultrasound guieded cryoablation, for over 5 years. Cryoablation is the same treatment the Angel’s center fielder Mike Trout recently elected to undergo to relieve his own Morton’s Neuroma. The Center for Morton’s Neuroma treats more Morton’s neuroma cases than any place in the US.

“Cryoablation is an excellent non-surgical treatment for Morton’s neuroma especially when it is done under ultrasound guidance for precision. In many cases the cryoablation may need to be repeated for pain resolution.”

Cryoablation is a mostly painless, non-surgical treatment for Morton’s Neuroma. Cryoablation consists of a small incision where a “cryoprobe” is inserted and freezes the affected nerve area, or neuroma. The procedure is done under local anesthetic, so it is mostly painless.

The cryoprobe is a thin 6-8mm long probe with an ice tip that can get down to -70 degrees Celsius. This tip degenerates the outer sheath of the affected nerve and destroys part of it, reducing the swelling and giving patients long lasting pain relief.

Patients can walk out of the clinic the same day and can resume light activities just a few days after having the procedures. Patients can should see the full effects within six to eight weeks after the procedure.

“Ultrasound guided non-surgical procedures like cryoablation are an excellent Morton’s neuroma treatment for competitive athletes who want to get back to their game as soon as possible. We have had amateur and professional athletes from all over the world who have had this treatment and are now playing.”

In most cases the ablation needs to be repeated for the full effect. This non-surgical procedure was the obvious choice for an athlete like Mike Trout. Pain can be managed with Tylenol and generally disappears within 2 months, and virtually all patients who undergo this procedure regain full motor function with no greater loss of sensation than they had before the procedure. The short recovery time, minimal pain after the procedure, and low instances of side effects means he can get back on the field quicker than other surgical options.
